Requirement and Preparation for Registration with ECSA

To ensure that lifts, escalators, and passenger conveyors are maintained and safe for use, South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) accredited Inspection Service Providers (who employ Registered Lift Inspectors as per regulation 9) are required to inspect such equipment regularly according to the OHS Act and regulations.

ECSA implemented requirements for registration of such inspectors and approached Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) to design a SLP to address the theoretical knowledge requirements for registration of Lift Inspectors. This SLP is recognised by ECSA who will oversee the registration of Lift Inspectors as per agreement in a Memorandum of Understanding with the Engineering Council of South Africa Lift Inspectors Registration Committee (LIRC).
