TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION ONLINE ENROLMENT, PARTICIPATION AND ENGAGEMENT

The following Terms and Conditions are defined to govern the online programmes presented by Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and Continuing Education (CE) under the leadership of the Tshwane School for Business and Society (TSB).  TUT Continuing Education offers online and face to face programmes for individuals and organisations through the largest higher education institution in Southern Africa.  It provides short learning programmes in various formats.

1. Eligibility and admission criteria

1.1. By enrolling in the TUT’s CE programmes, you confirm that you meet all eligibility criteria specified for the course / programme as defined in the online programme prospectus.
1.2. All applications will be evaluated to ensure that the applicate do adhere to the minimum qualifications and requirements for the online programme.
1.3. All online programmes will be conducted in English.
1.4. Applicants will be considered for the online programme according to the respective minimum requirements listed on a programme.
1.5. Prospective users who have obtained qualifications outside the Republic of South Africa are advised to contact the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) beforehand to have their qualifications evaluated.

2. Enrolment process

2.1. Enrolment is subject to the completion of the application process, including submission of all required documents and payment of fees.
2.2. Access to the online platform is available at https://www.ce.tut.ac.za
2.3. Registration is self-enrolment following the screen prompts.
2.4. Passwords are set and changed by the user.
2.5. By registering and accessing the CE@TUT online you agree to the terms and conditions as defined in the Terms and Conditions online tab.
2.6. Should you not agree to the terms and conditions, contact the CE administrator at ce@tut.ac.za.
2.7. CE@TUT accept that the spelling used during the registration process for names / surnames are correct for the issue of certificates. This will be supported with the submission of a valid identification document.

3. Fees and payment(s)

3.1. Fees are specified in the fee schedule in the online programme prospectus.
3.2. Payments are made online in South African Rand.
3.3. Fees are subject to change with prior notice.
3.4. Payment must be made in full according to the information described in the programme prospectus and deadlines to secure enrolment and to avoid penalties.
3.5. Voucher payments will require upfront payment before the programme deadline by the responsible company and/or sponsoring body.
3.6. No refunds will be paid once the programme commenced.
3.7. Cancellation of enrolment may incur administrative fees or forfeiture of payments, depending on the timing and circumstances.
3.8. Fees exclude any access to hardware, software and internet access required to enroll in this online programme.
3.9. Where a user was removed from a programme after a disciplinary process, no payments / fees will be refunded.

4. Attendance, participation and engagement

4.1. Students are expected to attend classes, participate and engage actively in all programme activities as outlined in the programme prospectus.
4.2. The user will provide their own hardware and software such as computers, Microsoft applications and access to the internet. This includes anti-virus software to govern cyber-attacks on personal infrastructure.
4.3. Non-attendance or failure to participate and comply with programme requirements may impact academic performance, progress, and eligibility for certification.
4.4. The user acknowledges and agrees that all submissions, assignments, and assessments will be generated by themselves.
4.5. Participation in group activities will be with equal time spent as the rest of the group members. By not participating in group activities, it is possible to not grade the individual’s section.
4.6. It is a requirement that the online programme be completed within the period defined in the online prospectus. No extensions will be granted to complete the online programme.

5. Privacy, data protection and use of cookies

5.1. CE@TUT collects and processes personal data for the purpose of enrolment and academic administration in relation to the relevant data protection laws. It is also required for the effective use of the learning management system, e.g. creating of username and passwords and billing purposes.
5.2.

The data that will be collected include the following:

  1. Name
  2. Mobile number
  3. eMail address
  4. Communication preference
  5. ID or passport number
  6. Council number
  7. Billing address
  8. Postal address
  9. Gender
  10. Ethnicity
  11. Date of birth
  12. Previous academic achievements
  13. Employer related information
5.3. System user’s rights regarding their personal data, including access, correction, and deletion, are protected in accordance with applicable regulations.
5.4. CE@TUT refers the right to keep the personal data on record for an extended period as required by TUT’s regulatory requirements.
5.5. 5.5 The CE@TUT learning management system collects personal data to optimize the use of the system. Data is required to identify the user, communicate via email and issue a certificate with the successful completion of the online program. Personal information can be updated by sending an email with proof of identification and residential address to ce@tut.ac.za.
5.6. No personal data will be shared with third-party service suppliers or venders. Information will be shared with the digital content learning management (LMS) hosting company Vertice Software Solutions (Pty) Ltd for the hosting and storage of data
5.7. As this LMS is hosted outside the boarders of South Africa, information will be stored at the service supplier’s premises protected under the POPI and PAYA Acts.
5.8. With the integration third-party software, e.g. plagiarism testing software, software licenses will be linked to unique users to optimize the use of the CE@TUT platform.
5.9. The CE@TUT LMS use cookies to optimize the functionality of the platform. It is recommended not to change the cookie settings.
5.10. Hyperlinked information to third-party software and content, will have different Cookie and Privacy policies. CE@TUT does not take responsibility for any of these as CE@TUT cannot change or govern these policies.
5.11. As a CE@TUT user, you have the right to enquire what personal information is kept. Written requests can be directed to ce@tut.ac.za.
5.12. As a CE@TUT user, you are responsible for not sharing your username/password with other users.

6. Code of conduct and plagiarism

6.1. Enrolled users are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with TUT’s code of conduct, treating staff and fellow students with respect and professionalism.
6.2. Any behavior that violates the code of conduct may result in disciplinary action and/or removal from the online programme according to TUT’s disciplinary procedures.
6.3. All submissions such as assignments, assessments and online activities will be evaluated for plagiarism. TUT has the right should any Artificial Intelligence (AI) and/or plagiarism be detected to disregard the submission and grade accordingly.
6.4. TUT reserves the right to exclude and/or remove a user from the programme based on unexcepted behavior and conduct, non-compliance with programme requirements and not adhering to minimum plagiarism requirements. In this instance, TUT will not be refunding any payments.

7. Intellectual Property

7.1. Any intellectual property created by online users during their studies remains the property of the online user, subject to any agreement or policies governing intellectual property rights.
7.2. Content (irrespective of the format) is the property of CE@TUT and cannot be copied and/or distributed in any format.

8. Disclaimer

8.1. CE@TUT reserves the right to make changes to the terms and conditions of enrolment, academic programmes, course offerings, feeds, and policies with reasonable notice provided to online users.

9. Communications and appeal procedures

9.1. All written communications can be directed via email at ce@tut.ac.za.
9.2. After hour technical issues (not administrative, content and/or programme enquiries) can be directed to admin@triscoms.online. This will be for platform support only.
